of the AO Spine Regional Course—MISS Degenerative Pathology

Now in its seventh edition, our Regional Courses will be held in Bogota on September 19-20. Join spine surgeons from across the region for a unique opportunity to expand your knowledge on the latest advances in spine surgery. The second day of the event will feature the fourth edition of the Scientific Session. During this session, we will have some special lectures and abstract presentations, which will be a great opportunity to highlight the scientific production that is being carried out in different countries of the region.
Submit your abstract for the opportunity to share your research with spine experts from across our region. You have until April 17, 2024 to submit your abstract. The top 12 selected abstracts will be presented during the Scientific Session. See below for details.

Requirements

Submit the abstract on time and according to the established criteria.
Presenter must have an active AO Spine Latin America membership.
Presenter must be fluent in English.



Typing instructions

  • Abstracts should not exceed 500 words. This does not include the title, author information, acknowledgments, references, or captions. Click here to download the abstract template in Word (DOCX) format.
  • Authors and affiliations must be entered only on the submission form and should not appear in the text file.
  • Abstracts must be submitted in English only.
  • Abstracts may only be uploaded as .pdf files (max. file size: 16MB).
  • Figures and tables are not allowed.
  • There is no limit to the number of abstracts you can submit as presenter, author or co-author.
  • The following sections of your abstract are MANDATORY:
    • Introduction;
    • Materials and Methods;
    • Results;
    • Conclusion.
  • Abstract file must be uploaded in the submission form and will be published as submitted by the corresponding author.
    Please note: It is the author's responsibility to submit a peer-reviewed abstract. Any spelling, grammatical or scientific errors in the text will be reproduced as typed by the author. The list of authors will be published exactly as submitted. Make sure the names and order are correct.



Consent and Responsibility

  • The abstract submitter warrants and represents that he or she is the sole owner or has the rights to all information and content. Publication of the abstract will not violate the rights of any third party, including, but not limited to, intellectual property rights.
  • The abstract submitter grants the organizers a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, publish, translate, distribute and display the content.
  • Submission of the abstract constitutes the author's consent to publication (e.g., Global Spine Journal, abstract book on CD or flash drive, website, social media, programs, etc.).



Selection Process

  • Each abstract will be reviewed and scored by 3 different experts according to established criteria.
  • The top 12 abstracts will be selected for oral presentation at the podium during the AO Spine Regional Course—MISS Degenerative Pathology.



Notification of acceptance

  • Acceptance or rejection notifications will be sent to the corresponding author (submitter) of the abstract no later than May 31, 2024.
  • All correspondence regarding the abstract will be sent to the email address provided in the submission form. The corresponding author is responsible for informing all other co-authors about the status of the abstract. To receive confirmation, please ensure that emails from [email protected] are not marked as spam by your e-mail provider.
  • All abstract presenters will be asked to confirm their participation by registering for the AO Spine Regional Course—MISS Degenerative Pathology by June 30, 2024. Otherwise, the abstract submission will be cancelled. Please remember that places for the course are limited and there is no reservation for presenters.



Presentation of abstracts

  • Submission of an abstract constitutes a formal commitment by the presenting author to present the abstract orally (if the study is accepted) at the session and in the time allotted by the committee.
  • During the in-person session, the author will have 6 minutes to present his/her study.
  • Presentations will be scored by a committee using a scoring checklist of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest score.
  • The oral presentation of selected abstracts must be in English.

Disclosure

For oral presentations or short talks, the disclosure must be included after the first/title slide according to the presentation template.


Abstract awards

  • All abstract presenters are automatically entered into the abstract awards competition.
  • Presenters of the 12 selected abstracts will receive a 1-year membership renewal (basic package).
  • Awards will be given to the presenters of the top three studies.
1st place:
One registration to the Global Spine Congress 2025.
2nd place:
One registration to the Global Spine Congress 2025.
3rd place: One Master Series Book.


Trade names

Only generic names for drugs, tools, etc. may be used and must not refer to a trade name.



Release Policy – Declaration

By confirming the submission of your abstract, you agree to the Release Policy - Statement:

"I grant AO Spine the right to use the media, biographical information, and information, including, without limitation, the right to edit, promote, copy, and advertise all such items in any educational, editorial, broadcast, or other program or material. Authors will be credited in any use of such materials.

I hereby release and hold harmless AO Spine and any of its principals, agents, servants, employees, officers, directors, licensees, sales and/or editorial personnel in any use of such items as set forth above.

I acknowledge and agree that I am not entitled to any compensation for the use of such materials.

The permission and releases granted herein are worldwide and perpetual.

This document shall form part of any agreement between the undersigned for the purposes described above".
